Green Cross aims to encourage children on environment friendly activities

The awards ceremony for the winners of Green Lane Environmental Diary Project 2012 was held at the Maharagama National Youth Services Council premises under the patronage of Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga.

Green Lane Environment Diary Writing Project is annually organized by Green Cross Organization and the project was started in 2005. The main objective of organizing this event is to encourage children to engage in environment friendly activities and note down same in a diary.

The Green Cross Organization also organises a speech contest and the first three winners will be able to participate at the International Children's Summit which is conducted in Japan. They also conduct a drama competition to appreciate children's skills. As a side event of the project, a Poster Competition was also held among schools selected to conduct the Environment Diary Competition to mark the World Water Day.

Assistant Chairman of Green Cross Organization Tom Kawamoto, Mitsubishi Colombo Office General Manager Thoshieki Shibatha, Sri Lanka Green Cross National organization chairman and Sri Jayawardanepura University Japanese Language Unit Senior Lecturer Jagath Senevirathne, Media Director to the President Sudath Silva and several others participated.
