Domestic industries target of 15,000 will be met - Devananda
The completion of the Divineguma Industrial Exhibition will enable
the setting up 15,000 domestic industries islandwide, Traditional
Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister Douglas Devananda
said.

He was speaking as the Chief Guest at a ceremony at John Kotelawala
Vidyalaya in Kurunegala to mark the opening of the Divineguma Industrial
Exhibition.
The minister said Divineguma Industrial Exhibitions were held
islandwide to extend assistance, by way of providing training,
technology, bank loans and implements to the existing as well as to
commence traditional, small scale and domestic industries entrusted to
his ministry.
He said 22 industrial exhibitions had been held so far and as done on
previous occasions, those desirous could submit their applications to
commence new industries on the final day of the exhibition.
The government's aim is to create an industrial culture in the
country and through which, to encourage those with potentiality and
ability to go for industries to better themselves, as envisaged in the
Mahinda Chinthana vision for the future policy programme, he said.
Commerce and Industry Deputy Minister Jayaratne Herath said Minister
Devananda extended support to governments that fought LTTE terrorism and
narrowly escaped death 13 times by LTTE attempts to his life.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa entrusted him with a big slice of
development work of the country through the Divineguma programme to
uplift small scale, traditional and domestic industries, he said.
Minister Herath requested the people of Kurunegala to make use of the
opportunity before them. |
