Transformation to righteousness - PM
It is with much reverence that I send this message on the day of the
Deepavali Festival, one of the most sacred events celebrated by Hindus
world over, Prime Minister D M Jayaratne said in a Deepavali message.
The message: “In my opinion, Deepavali celebrated every year to
honour God Krishna represents a transformation from wickedness to
righteousness and respect for truthfulness.
I wish to stress at this holy moment that we as a nation are no more
living as separate communities and faiths and we no longer celebrate
events singly, under leadership President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
“We have now reached a point of co-existence where we can
collectively celebrate as Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and Burghers in
Buddhist, Hindu, Islam and Christian festive events respecting each
others diversities.
“This is because we have now got rid of the 30 year war. This
motherland belongs to all. Therefore no one can abdicate their
responsibility of transforming this land into The Worder of Asia. Our
fervent wish is that on this Sacred Day commemorating God Krishna who
defeated unrighteousness, we must work as honest Sri Lankans.”
