Students win top prizes at the ACCA awards ceremony
The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), which is
the global body for professional accountants that offer
business-relevant, first-choice qualifications to people of application,
ability and ambition around the world who seek a rewarding career in
accountancy, finance and management, recently held their awards ceremony
at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo, to recognize and award students who have
excelled in their exams in December 2011 and June 2012.

Speaking at the function the Head of ACCA Sri Lanka Ms. Nilusha
Ranasingha congratulated the prize winners and stated that all the prize
winners should take pride in knowing that the commitment and hard work
of their outstanding achievements have been endorsed and recognized.
She also pointed out that ACCA's number one priority is to deliver
value to businesses and society and their core values have always been,
accountability and integrity and that these principals have been
maintained throughout the history of ACCA up to today. She therefore
urged the winners that they are expected to uphold the highest ethical
standards in all their professional activities, which is one of the key
pillars that the ACCA qualification is founded upon.
ACCA President Rajive Casie Chetty also addressed the gathering and
stated that ACCA sets very high standards in all their examinations and
pointed out that therefore achieving excellence in these exams will pay
much dividends by giving employers a clear indication that you are those
that are ranked amongst the best.
Chief Guest at the function was the Managing Director and CEO of
Hatton National Bank PLC ,Mr.Rajendra Theagarajah who also added that he
considers ACCA as one of the foremost organizations for professional
accountants and said that it is indeed a qualification that will pave
the way for a rewarding career in the finance profession.
The prize winners who were awarded as the top affiliates at the
ceremony were Ms.Sheranka Madanayake for December 2011and Maduhansi
Mihindukulasuriya for June 2012 . The prizes for these winners were
sponsored and handed over by Dr.Kemal De Soysa , the CEO of Amba
Research and the Chief Guest Mr. Rajendra Theagarajah ,the MD and CEO of
Hatton National Bank PLC .
Sheranka Madanayake, was the first Sri Lankan to receive the Gold
medal for being the world wide best affiliate, bringing much fame and
recognition to Sri Lanka.
Other prize winners at the function included those for the
Foundations in Accountancy for December 2011 and for June 2012, and the
Skills module for December 2011 and June 2012,which were awarded by the
Mercury Institute of Management which is the only Platinum status
tuition provider in Sri Lanka at present .The Professional Level awards
were sponsored by Etisalat Lanka ( Private) Limited.
ACCA's globally relevant qualification has today given many students
an excellent start in core accountancy skills, where they have gained
more specialist knowledge to build a successful career in finance and
ACCA members hold some of the most leading positions in many Blue Chip
and Global organizations and have earned themselves the reputation of
spearheading much positive change in the organizations they work for.
This year's Prize Winners Ceremony was yet another proud testament of
students who had achieved pass rates for most of the ACCA subjects that
was above global rates.
ACCA has also used their expertise and experience to work with
governments, regulators, professional bodies and employers to develop
the global accountancy profession and support over 154,000 members and
436,000 students throughout their careers, providing services through a
network of 83 offices and active centres and more than 8,500 approved
