NSB awards Hapan Scholarships
The annual Hapan Scholarship Awards Ceremony – 2012 , was held
recently, at Temple Trees and the students throughout the island, who
have had excelled in the year 5 Scholearship Examination of the year
2012 were felicitated and facilitated at this function .

The salient feature of this year's function was the distinguished
participation of the First Lady, Madam Shiranthi Wicramasinghe Rajapaksa,
the Gracious wife of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, as the Chief Guest and
gracing the occasion.
On this occasion, the First Lady stressed the fact that the time had
come to think and act more wisely, for the sake of this children, by the
elders as well as the entire society, to protect the world of children,
who are awaiting to take over the future of our country.
At this annually organized function, the children among the first 15
students, who had scored highest marks islandwide including both Sinhala
and Tamil mediums and holding Hapan, Post Office, NRFC and Smile
accounts of NSB, were awarded scholarships and felicitated .
This year, 183 children, covering all 25 districts of the country,
including the North and the Eastern Provinces, received scholarships.
At the same time, the each child was awarded with a valuable
certificate, a medal, a school bag and the gifts. It is also worthy to
note that the NSB is felicitating the every student, who has got through
the scholarship examination on branch level too.
In addition to the above, medals and prizes of NSB were also awareded
this time to the 27 students who won the Golden, Silver and Bronze
medals in the Mathematics and Science Olimpiad competition held at
Calcutta, India recently.
It is also significant to note that this was the first time, that Sri
Lanka could obtain Gold Medal in a series of International Science and
Maths olimpiard competition of this nature.
Bandula Gunawardana, the Minister of Education, Gitanjana Gunawardana,
the deputy Minister, Sunil S.Sirisena,Chairman, NSB, Sumanadasa
Abegunawardhana, Working Director, Lionel P. Fernando, Director, H. M.
Hennayake Bandara, GM/CEO of NSB participated as special guests and the
Higher Management of the Bank, top officials from the Ministry of
Education, the recipient children and their parents were present at the
function.
The NSB, under it's Corporate Social Responsibility Programme for the
children of the country, awards these scholarships annually since the
year 2003 and the NSB also organizes a series of scholarship seminar
islandwide annually.
