Dulakshi sets up new Sri Lanka record

Eranga Dulakshi of Sri Lanka Air Force set a new Sri Lanka record on
Friday in the 3000m steeple chase at the 90th National Athletics
Championship, which started at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo.
Dulakshi clocked 10:11.72 breaking her previous record of 10:17.66
set on September 3, 2009 in Colombo. The Air Force athlete also
shattered the meet record of 10:44.92 established in the last year’s
meet in Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium.
Meanwhile, Kurunegala District Athletics Association’s Priyangika
Madumanthi recorded 1.80m in the women’s High Jump improving her own
record of 1.81m. The finals of the nine events were held yesterday in
the Selection Trial championship for the next year’s South Asian Games
(SAG), which will be held in Delhi, India.
Both men’s and women’s 200m finals were concluded yesterday without
country’s leading short distance runner Shehan Ambepitiya, who sustained
an injury.
Today, the second day, finals of ten decsiplines, including men’s
110m hurdles, women’s 100m hurdles, both men and women’s 400m hurdles
will be held at Sugathadasa Stadium, starting with men’s 10,000m finals
at 7am.
