Container topples, pedestrian killed

A pedestrian died when a container toppled on him on Galle road in Daluwathumulla, Kahawa yesterday.

The container driver and his assistant were also hospitalised. Police said the vehicle was travelling from Colombo to Galle when it went out of control in Kahawa.

Meetiyagoda Police are investigating.

Search on for fake note producer

Galaha Police commenced a search operation to find a man who produced and distributed fake notes in the denominations of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500.

Information about the suspect was revealed after the Police arrested two suspects with 32 counterfeit notes in the denomination of Rs 1,000 and 18 notes in the denomination of Rs 500 in their possession at Merahena, Galaha on Thursday.

Man stabbed to death

A 24 – year - old man in Saindamarudu who was stabbed on Tuesday in Kalmunai died at hospital on Thursday.

The victim was identified as M Sihan.

Kalmunai Police arrested the suspect who stabbed Sihan. Kalmunai magistrate remanded the suspect until November 21.

Man axed to death

Police launched a search operation to arrest a suspect in connection with an incident where a man was killed and a woman was seriously injured after they were attacked with an axe in a house in Udasgiriya on Thursday. Investigations revealed the incident had taken place at the suspect’s house when he found his wife in the company of another man.

Two arrested with cannabis

Wellawaya Police arrested two suspects with 7.250 kilos of cannabis in their possession at Demaliya, Wellawaya. They were produced before the Wellawaya magistrate yesterday.

Stolen motorcycle found

A suspect who allegedly stole a motorcycle worth Rs 180,000 in Heenkenda, Ragama was arrested by Ragama Police with the stolen motorcycle on Thursday.
