Secretary Rajapaksa was addressing teachers, students and parents at
the annual senior prize day of Galle Saint Aloysius College yesterday.
"Members of the Armed Forces and the Police have proved their
devotion. Our soldiers are the least privileged and poorly rewarded work
force of the country although they render a commendable service to the
nation setting an example to society. It is on that understanding that
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has given due respect, honour and
recognition to War Heroes," he said.
"Today's children have many opportunities and avenues in various
spheres. We have created a conducive and stable political, economic and
social atmosphere in the country," the Secretary said. "All youths
should constantly strive to enhance their knowledge, intellect, talents
and skills as these are essential leadership qualities. Only leaders
with proper education and skills can take correct and firm decisions.
Leaders lacking such qualities always fail to take correct decisions,"
he said. "We have provided opportunities and facilities for our youths
to reach the top in society, provided they are prepared and determined
to reach higher goals," the Defence Secretary said.
Leaders with selfish attitudes and motives will never take correct
decisions for the advancement and well being of the country and the
people, he said. Secretary Rajapaksa urged all youths to be loyal and
devoted citizens of the motherland.
