1,000 secondary schools programme:

Isuru, Navodya schools to be integrated

Isuru and Navodya schools would be integrated into the 1,000 secondary schools development programme, Education Deputy Minister Gamini Vijith Vijithamuni Zoysa said in Parliament yesterday.

Responding to a question raised by UNP MP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the deputy minister said the development of these schools would be completed in the shortest possible time.

He said in the Budget 2013, the President as the Finance Minister, proposed to develop isolated schools by integrating them to ‘Children Friendly’ (Lama Mithuru) schools.

He said the money to pay teachers’ arrears have been disbursed by the Ministry.

He said steps have been taken to speed up these payments to teachers through Provincial Councils.
