Over Rs. 239m to reconstruct Hindu sacred places

The government will repair and restore all places of religious worship, including Hindu sacred places of worship destroyed by LTTE terrorist activities, Buddhasasana and Religious Affairs Deputy Minister M K A D S Gunawardene told Parliament yesterday.

The deputy minister said this in response to a question raised by UNP MP Sajith Premadasa.

He said 3,600 Hindu temples have already been registered at Hindu Religious and Cultural Affairs Department.

We have already spent nearly Rs. 239 million to renovate and reconstruct Hindu sacred places of worship damaged during the war.

He further said the government will grant financial assistance, if the requests from Hindu Temple Committees destructed during the war were made.
