Two clubbed to death

Two persons had been clubbed to death in Pannala and Ekala on Friday and Saturday. The first victim had been clubbed at Kenillapitiya on October 29. The victime 36-year- old V A Sunil Shantha of the same area, had been first admitted to the Dambadeniya hospital and later transferred to the Kurunegala hospital, where he had succumbed to his injuries. The Pannala police arrested the suspect who was remanded until November 15 when produced at the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate’s Court.

The other person who had been clubbed in a bakery in Ekala, had been pronounced dead upon admission to the Negambo hospital. The victim was 52- year-old H S Mendis of Ja Ela. Ja Ela. Police have commenced investigations to arrest the suspect.

Man drowns in flooded paddy field

A 47- year- old man had drowned when he had slipped while walking along a path submerged in flood water in a paddy field in Heenkenda, Ragama on Saturday. The victim K M Jayarathna was a resident of Heenkenda.

Boy commits suicide

The Medawachchiya Police have commenced investigations in to the death of a 16- year- old student, whose body was found hanging in a room in his house in Lindawewa, Medawachchiya. The victim had been Dhananjaya Jayalath Perera. Investigations had revealed that the victim had been living with his grandmother, since his father, who was a soldier had gone missing during war time and his mother had been employed abroad. The body had been sent to the Anuradhapura hospital morgue for a post mortem.

Girl drowns in gravel pit

A nine-year-old girl had been drowned while bathing in a gravel pit brimmed with water near her house in Punchikulam in Madu on Saturday. The post mortem was due yesterday. The Madu Police to continue investigations.

Missing man’s body found

The body of a man who had been reported missing since Friday, was found on the Wadduwa beach on Sunday morning by the police. Initial investigations had revealed that the victim 42- year- old R Nihal Ranjith Rajapakse of Henapola, had not returned home after he went to Kalutara town to purchase some clothes. Wadduwa Police to continue investigations.

Family arrested for attempted illegal migration

Five persons, including four from the same family have been arrested by the Thissamaharama Police on Saturday at the Kirinda beach for attempting to illegally migrate to Australia by boat. A couple, their two sons aged 9 and 14, who are residents of Lunama in Ambalantota and another 19 year-old person were taken into custody, when they missed the vessel in which they were to travel.

The mother and the two boys had been released on bail when produced before the Thissamaharama Magistrate’s court. The other two had been remanded till November 12. Further investigations continue.

Woman killed by fall

A 33-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries at the Colombo National Hospital while being treated after a fall from the top floor of a house in Wanawasala, Kelaniya on Saturday. The victim P D Sureka Priyangani of Kadawatha, had faced this mishap while attending a birthday party of a friend. The Peliyagoda Police have commenced investigations into the incident.

Servant’s death probed

The Kaththankudi police have commenced investigations into the death of a 19-year-old woman who had been employed as a domestic aide in Kalladi. The victim was L Radika, of Naripulthotam, Ethimale. The police had found her body in the quarters, while it has been reported that she had died the previous night.

Woman’s body found on the beach

The Fort Police on Saturday, found the body of a woman on the Galle Face beach. Later, the police had found a hand bag believed to be the victim’s on a bridge nearby. According to information, some documents in the bag had revealed her identity as M Kamala Dharshani of Pundalu Oya. The body has been sent to the Colombo National Hospital morgue for a post mortem.

Missing broker murdered by friend

Acting on information received by the Colombo Fort Police, the Nanu Oya Police on Friday, found the body of a jewellery broker, a resident of Kotahena, who had been reported missing for the past three days. The Fort Police arrested a suspect following a complaint lodged by a woman to the Kotahena Police on October 30 stating that her husband, 53-year-old Sinnathurei Igneshwaran, a jewellery a broker from Hettiweediya in Colombo had gone missing that day. The Fort Police arrested broker who was a friend of the missing person. Interrogations had revealed that he had murdered Igneshwaran to take Rs 3.3 million which the victim had taken as an advance from two customers. The suspect had revealed that he had taken the body in a car to Nanu Oya and dumped it by the side of the road, two kilometres away from the town.

The body was sent to the Nuwara Eliya hospital morgue where the victim’s family identified it. The police also seized the Rs 3.3 million, the car used in the crime and four rings that the victim had in his possession on another man to whom the suspect had handed the goods. The Fort Police said that the murder had been carried out to rob the money the victim possessed.

Two Rumanians swindlers nabbed

Acting on information received, the Dehiwal Police on Saturday, arrested two Rumanian nationals who had withdrawn large sums of money from Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). The Police seized 58 fraud ATM cards and Rs 2.351 million from their possession. Investigations revealed that the duo had withdrawn money from ATMs in Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia and Bambalapitiya. Further investigations continue.

IGPs ‘help desk’ busy

The IGPs help desk which commenced on November 1, was gaining momentum as more complaints had been lodged on the second day, the Police Public Relations Media Unit said. The desk is for the public to lodge their complaints regarding police investigations and other matters relevant to the police service. Most of the complaints had been taken into consideration and the needful had been carried out. The public can now address their complaints and grievances concerning the police service on the following numbers: 011 24444 80, 81, 82
