the second individual sports World Champion Sri Lanka has ever
produced as he clinched the World carrom singles title beating
India's Bharathidasan 25/4, 25/10 in the final of the sixth Carrom
World Championship concluded at the Galadari hotel, Colombo

SL Sevens Rugby on the rise
The Sri Lanka Rugby Sevens Team's remarkable
performance to take the Plate Championship of the final leg of the
HSBC Asian Sevens Series which concluded yesterday at the Singapore
Cricket Club grounds at the expense of China is another milestone in
the island nation's rugby march forward. This latest feather in the
cap was in the wake of two previous Plate Championship titles
clinched in Shanghai and Mumbai to mark three consecutive Plate
titles in Sri Lanka's Sevens performances in the last two months at

Lanka beat NZ in rain-hit ODI
Sri Lanka scored a 14-run win over New Zealand
by Duckworth-Lewis (D/L) method in the rain-hit second one-day
international on Sunday to gain a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Sri Lanka were 118-3 off 22.5 overs chasing a 251-run target when
play was called off due to rain in Pallekele. They were ahead of the
D/L par score of 104 at that stage.

Psychologist for the SL cricket team long overdue
Going through Elmo Rodrigopulle's report in the
Daily News, regarding an employment of a Psychologist to the
National Cricket Team. I think this was overdue from the time we
entered the test cricket arena. When you compete at world class
level, Coaches and Support Staff can help the team and guide them to
achieve higher level where technique, strength & conditioning,
tactics are concerned. But as a Sportsman, competing at very high
level, mindset is very important to believe in himself and to face
situation at various levels.
