There is no bridge across the Mahaweli river on the St Clive-Agaraoya
road in the Ambagamuwa divisional secretariat division in the Nuwara
Eliya district.
As a result the villagers travelling on the St Clive-Agaraoya road
are compelled to cross the river by wading in the water with much
difficulty.
Although the affected villagers have made several requests to the
authorities to construct a bridge across the Mahaweli river, no action
has been taken.
The villagers appeal to the authorities to take steps to meet their
need of a bridge over the Mahaweli river on the St Clive-Agaraoya road
for their travelling convenience without further delay.
Consumer Affairs Authority earns Rs 6.5 m as fines

The Authority has earned Rs 6,573,050.00 as fines from errant traders
from January 1 to November 2.
The Kurunegala District Consumer Affairs Authority has taken legal
actions against 1,693 errant traders who violated rules and regulations
of the Consumer Protection Act.
The raids were carried out on the direction of Co-operatives and
Internal Trade Minister Jonsten Fernando.
The raid had been conducted against traders who fleece consumers by
selling commodities at prices higher than the maximum price, selling
outdated goods and failing to displaying the prices of goods.
New bridge

A new bridge over a canal on the Norwood, Venture estate road in the
Ambagamuwa divisional secretariat division in the Nuwara Eliya district
has been constructed by the Ambagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha.
Central Provincial of Tamil Education, Industries and Sports Minister
Anushia Sivaraja provided Rs one million from her CPC decentralized
budget 2012 were spent on the project.
Commissioning of the new bridge will make the residents of the
venture estate to travel conveniently.
No dancing teacher

The Kelanigama Vidyalaya in the Hatton educational zone in the Nuwara
Eliya district is without a dancing teacher.
The students of the school are in a quandary to study the aesthetic
subject of dancing.
The transfer of the only dancing teacher of the school to another
school in the same educational zone made by the educational authorities
some time back without making a replacement has attributed to the
situation.
The school development society of the Kelanigama Vidyalaya requests
the education authorities to take steps to appoint a dancing teacher.
Additional magistrate appointed

Manjula Karunaratne has been appointed as an Additional Magistrate at
Panadura Magistrates Court.
As there was no additional court building the Additional Magistrate
had to hear the cases in the Court chambers.
Divineguma Bill:
Speaker to announce SC verdict
Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa is expected to announce to the House the
Supreme Court verdict on the Divineguma Bill when Parliament meets
tomorrow.
It is anticipated that Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa
would make a statement on the floor of the House in respect of how he
proposes to carry out future activities connected to the Divineguma
programme.
Wasp attack: 17 hospitalised

Seventeen persons were admitted to hospital after being attacked by
wasps yesterday, Eravur Base Hospital medical superintendent M C M
Faleel said.
The incident occurred at Meerakeny Veethy Eravur in the Batticaloa
district.
The wasps had been disturbed when a person was cutting palmyra
leaves.
Rewards for weapons surrender

those who voluntarily surrender weapons in their possession or who
provide information regarding the location of weapons.
