Minister Wimal felicitated

Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa was felicitated with a special award to appreciate his commitment towards the uplift of the construction sector.

The award was presented by Western Province Construction Association Chairman S P Liyanarachchi at a ceremony in Colombo on Saturday. The minister was appreciated for his close contacts with the Sri Lankan Construction Associations' and direct intervention to resolve problems.

The minister said the construction sector has grown up to 17.5 percent. He noted a tremendous work load was undertaken by the construction sector during the last three years. He added infrastructure development which was hampered during the war is progressing well.

He noted infrastructure development throughout the country has been given priorityby the government.

He also observed a greater proportion of people, from company owners to labourers, earn a lot of money through the construction field.

"Therefore, the growth of this sector must be maintained for the economic wellbeing of society," he said.
