This road is of significant importance as it already handles relatively high traffic volumes.

This road serves as a connecting road between two major highways, the A08 (Panadura – Ratnapura) and the A04 (Colombo – Avissawella). This road often serves as a bypass route for vehicles traveling in and out of Colombo.

The improvement of the Galagedara – Horana Road is of national interest and it will bring both social and economic benefits to this area.

The funds required for this project, Rs. 1400 million, will be provided by the Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC under this loan agreement. The proposed period of construction is two years.

The design and construction of this road will be undertaken by K.D.A.Weerasinghe and Company (Pvt) Limited under the control of the RDA. The completion of this project will result in a complete rehabilitation and upgrade of this road, bringing in several social and economic benefits to the area. Reduced travel times and vehicle operating costs will be a direct economic benefit and, in addition, this project will help improve the standard of living for local residents by providing ease of travel in commuting to work or seeking access to other basic services. This Galagedara – Horana Road rehabilitation will lay a foundation to facilitate urban development along this route.
