The Effie Week takes flight in November

Introduced for the first time in its history, The Effie Awards 2012 unveils the composition of “The Effie Week.” With less than 30 days to the main event, the Effie Week which will commence on the 16th of November to end with the grand finale of the Effies on November 22, 2012.

Ahamed Aroos, Project Chairman, Effie Awards Sri Lanka, explaining the lineup said, “The events will comprise of twists of fun and thrill to learning and knowledge sharing. The Effie Week will kick off with the Amazing Race: Effie Week Edition, a day packed with multiple experiences of team work, can-do attitude, a zest to win and every moment filled with fun and excitement for the advertising fraternity on Saturday, November 17, 2012. The Race will be open to a maximum of four teams from an agency to compete and claim victory.”

The weekend will be followed by a workshop which will be open to advertising agencies, marketeers, brand managers and CEOs which will be held on November 20, 2012. This half a day session will encompass knowledge sharing and learning on various facets of effectiveness such as Effective Marketing Communications, Effective Branding and Effective Leadership. In today’s volatile business environment being effective is becoming a very important element of any successful campaign.

“The Effie Week will come to a close with the Gala Awards Night of Effie Awards Sri Lanka for 2012, which will recognize and reward campaigns for their effectiveness, judged by an eminent panel of judges with experience from across industries such as marketing, advertising, media, research and academia.The best campaigns will receive accolades for their insight, big idea, strategy, and execution under the grades of Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards,” said Gamika De Silva, Vice President Projects – SLIM.

Sri Lanka is yet to win gold at the Effies. It is anticipated that this year, Sri Lanka will have the honour of winning Gold.

As an effort to support this motive, Ben Lightfoot, the President of Effies Singapore and CEO of the Grant McCann World Group Singapore, conducted a workshop on “How to win an Effie” at the participants brief which was held on October 5, 2012.

Effie Awards 2012; Ideas that work - Effie identifies and rewards the most significant achievements in marketing communications. “It consistently focuses on the results or the effectiveness of a campaign to meet the originally stated objectives. However, the criteria to win an Effie is not merely limited to results, but rather focuses on the analysis of the environment, stating the aligned objectives, development of a winning strategy and its implementation which all lead to results in the market place.

Therefore, creativity or the execution of a campaign is not the core of this industry, but rather an evaluation of the entire communications process, which ultimately leads to delivering superior results in the market place,” said Imal Fonseka, Head of Judging Panel.

Tilan Wijeyasekera, President SLIM expressing his views on the national body’s involvement with the Effies said “It was a significant achievement when the Sri Lanka institute of Marketing managed to secure the rights to hold the Effie Awards in Sri Lanka for the first time in 2008.

Since its inception in 1968 by the American Marketing Association (AMA,)winning an Effie has become a global symbol of achievement.
