Treasure hunters arrested

Walapane Police took into custody nine suspects while hunting for treasure in Kalaganwatte, Halketiwala in Walapane on Wednesday.

They were produced in Walapane Magistrate's court yesterday.


Train hits three wheeler killing two

Two persons were killed when the threewheeler they were travelling in, collided with a train plying from Kandy to Colombo at the Ganegoda railway crossing in Weyangoda yesterday morning. K R C Weerasinghe, 37, and the driver E Janaka Kumara, 28, of Hunumulla died in the incident. Investigations are continuing.


Man's body found

Nanu Oya Police commenced investigations into the death of a man whose body was found on a road in stage 2, Bangalahatha in Nanu Oya on Wednesday. The 5'6" tall victim who appears to be between 45-50 years old was wearing a striped short sleeved shirt and brown trousers.

The body was sent to Nuwara Eliya hospital morgue. Police seek public assistance to identify the body.


Jumbo takes farmer's life

A 39 year old farmer was killed after being attacked by an elephant while he was going to his chena on a motorbike at Diulpothana, Mahaoya.

W M Punchibandara, a resident of Giradurukotte faced the mishap. Maha Oya Police conducted investigations.
