Police believe double murder suspect responsible

The suspect in the double murder case in Kahawatte who was granted bail last week may have been directly involved in the killing of another woman in Warapitiya on Wednesday, Police Media Spokesman SSP Prishantha Jayakody said.

A 66-year-old woman died at Kahawatte Hospital after being admitted in a critical condition after an unidentified person had slashed her at her home in Temple Road, Warapitiya on Wednesday around 5pm.

Her son who was away at the time of the incident found his mother in a pool of blood in their compound when he returned home, police said. Referring to the incident SSP Jayakody said they suspect, a direct involvement of the accused of the double murder carried out on May 30, where two sisters were murdered and their bodies set on fire. He has been granted bail by the court despite objections form the Police and the Solicitor General, SSP Jayakody added.
