NFF salutes late SC Judge

National Freedom Front has expressed its deepest sympathies over the death of former Supreme Court Judge Justice Raja Sirimewan Wanasundara.

Making reference to the role he played as a judge of the Supreme Court when the Provincial Council Bill came up for hearing, the NFF said it saluted him for his stand taken at the time. Justice Wanasundara led the four dissident judgements stated in clear terms, how such an administrative system would affect the smooth running of the country. He went on further to say the Provincial Council system would be detrimental to unitary character of the Republic of Sri Lanka.

He said with the setting up of the Provincial Council System the unitary state - would be lost and the republic turn into a federal structure.

Late Justice Wanasundara steadfastly remained committed to the abolishing of the Provincial Council system.

Looking back at the Provincial Council system after 25 years, we see how true was his analysis in respect of the Provincial Councils and the harm that this would bring about.

We have lost a precious son of the soil, at a time, we are in need of such men of that calibre, the statement signed by Minister Wimal Weerawansa as the Leader of the Front states.

The party conveyed its deepest sympathies to the members of the bereaved family.
