Southern Expressway motorists asked to avoid Welipenna exit

The Ports and Highways Ministry yesterday advised motorists using the Southern Expressway not to use the Welipenna exit point as several places of the Matugama - Aluthgama Road have gone under water.

Ports and Highways Ministry Deputy Minister Nirmala Kotelawala said the Southern Expressway is not inundated as some claimed.

"It is only the adjacent road near the Welipanna exit that has been flooded," he said.

Motorists arriving from Kottawa are instructed to use the Dodangoda exit point.
