Twenty five UNESCO ambassadors to participate in inter-religious
conference

UNESCO General Conference President Dr. Katalin Bogyay and about 25
UNESCO ambassadors will arrive in Sri Lanka today to participate in an
Inter-religious and Cultural International Conference on world peace.
The Conference is to be held from November 3 to 10 with the
participation of about 600 foreign delegates including Venerable Master
Chin Kung, the Australian Pure Land Buddhist Association President.
The aim of the conference is to promote world peace through religious
teachings and cultural unity.
The Chief prelates, representatives of all religions, President
Mahinda Rajapaksa, Ministers and MPs are to take part in this
conference.
Addressing a press conference held at the Media and Information
Ministry Auditorium yesterday, International Religious and Cultural
Adviser to the President Ven Dr Bodagama Chandima Thera said the
conference would be a valuable opportunity to showcase the peaceful
environment and post war developments of the country to the world. He
said the delegation would meet the President at the Temple Trees on
Saturday, the inaugural day of the conference.
He said the delegates would also visit Dalada Maligawa in Kandy and
Sri Maha Bodhi in Anurdhapura and would hold special lectures by
distinguished guests. The delegates is also scheduled to visit Dambulla,
Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa for sight seeing. |
