Five students arrested after clash

The Cinnamon Gardens Police yesterday arrested five students of two leading Colombo schools following a clash between two groups of students from schools which are in the same locality. “Six students, three from each school were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital with severe injuries, “Police Spokesman SSP Prishantha Jayakody said.

“The clash reportedly occurred when students of one school started throwing stones at a group of students from the other school.

"The dispute stemmed from a long standing rivalry owing to a long term personal dispute, “Police said. “Traffic on the Colombo University road was obstructed due to the clash and one police officer was also injured in the stoning,” Police added.

A large number of police personnel were deployed in the area. Meanwhile, the Education Ministry announced that the Grade 10,11,12 and 13 classes in these two schools have been suspended until October 29.
