No parking order by magistrate
Nugegoda Magistrate Ajith Masinghe recently ordered vehicle owners
not to park vehicles along the Maddumage Watta, Gangodavila, Nugegoda
until further notice.
The Kohuwela Police appeared for the prosecution. The Magistrate
directed the respondents to file objections if not to issue permanent
injunction.
Senior Attorney Wasantha Ranasinghe appeared for the respondents.
Modernization programme
In keeping with the Mahinda Chinthana Idiri Dekma programme of
increasing the number of Fine Arts centres the Ministry of Culture and
the Arts and the Cultural Affairs Department has taken steps to repair
and modernize the John de Silva Memorial Theatre and the Colombo Art
Gallery to suit the needs of artistes.
As decided at the 2012 Budget discussions the Treasury has allocated
Rs 323 million for this work said a press release by the Cultural
Affairs Department.
The release said the stage, lighting and speaker system as well as
seats in the audience gallery are in a dilapidated state. Lack of Air
conditioning makes the use of the theatre difficult on sunny days.
Under the rehabilitation programme the John de Silva theatre will be
equipped with modern technological equipment a gallery for the
conservation of arts equipment, a new office complex, a hall with better
seating and a car park. The Art Gallery will be equipped with an
exhibition hall for amateur and veteran artistes.
The repair and rehabilitation work will be launched in December and
completed within a short time.
Lecture
Sri Jayawardenepura University Department of Forestry and
Environmental Science Professor and Sri Lanka Resource Center for
Indigenous Knowledge Director Prof Hemanthi Ranasinghe will deliver a
lecture under the auspicious of the Wildlife and Nature Protection
Society on October 31 at 6 pm at the Organization of Professional
Association of Sri Lanka (OPA) 275/75, Prof Stanley Wijesundera Mawatha,
Off Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 07
She would share her experiences and insights when she delivers the
lecture (illustrated) on "Challenges of Conservation in the Development
of Sri Lanka's North and East." The lecture is open to the public and
entrance is free.
Get together
The Past Pupils Association of St Paul's Milagiriya Girls School has
organized its annual get together to celebrate the school's 125th
