Wall near Sigiriya Lion's Paw damaged by lightning

A part of the wall near the Lion's Paw just at the entrance of the climb to the Sigiriya Rock was damaged, when it was struck by lightning yesterday.

According to an Archaeological Department spokesman , lightning stuck the wall at around 2.30 pm yesterday, covering an area of about 10 feet.

" A section of the wall collapsed due to the force of the lightning. But the damage was not severe, "he said.

The renovation of the damaged portion of the rock will be difficult due to the heavy rains and lightning being experienced these days in and around Sigiriya. There were no reports of injuries to anyone following the incident.
