Kegalle High Court Judge sentenced former Sri Lanka Army Commando
B.G.Saman Sampath Rajapaksha to three years' Rigorous Imprisonment as he
had pleaded guilty to the charge of staying with an LTTE woman member at
a hotel in Kegalle and conspiring to assassinate Minister Keheliya
Rambukwella.
The Attorney General had indicted him on charges of maintaining
physical contact with R. Thamarei Wadani, alias Nelum, resident of
Velvetithurei, Jaffna, a member of a terrorist group and failure to
provide details on her to the Security Forces.
The suspect confessed that he had an affair with the latter from
December 21, 2007 to February 6, 2008.
Meanwhile, Kegalle Provincial Court sentenced S. Suriyakumar to a 35
year jail term on four charges, including, harbouring an LTTE member who
tried to assassinate Sarath Fonseka.
The suspect was charged with four offences, including transporting
Manjula Devi, a resident of Jaffna, to Rambukkana, giving her lodgings
in Rambukkana, providing her house rent in the Weliweriya area and for
withholding information from the Police about an LTTE agent.
