Pension scheme for indigenous physicians
Introducing a pension Scheme for the benefit of indigenous physicians
in the Sabaragamuwa Province for the first time is a key and a novel
proposal, Sabaragamuwa Governor W. J. M. Lokubandara said.
The Governor was reading out the Five Year Policy (2013 -2017) of the
Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council, yesterday, opening at the Sixth Session
of the Council.
The other salient points of the policv statement included the strict
application of the law to put an end to playing of audio cassettes in
public transport containing indecent songs that induce both young and
old to indecent behaviour and the introduction of new laws to be
strictly followed by the owners of private buses and vans transporting
schoolchildren.
Governor Lokubandara was received on his arrival at the Provincial
Council premises with a Police salute and traditional welcome unique to
Sabaragamuwa. The first session of the Sixth Sabaragamuwa Provincial
Council commenced with SPC chairman Kanchana Jayarathne in the Chair at
10.00 am after the observance of multi-religious ceremonies.
The Governor announced that steps would be taken to complete the Road
Development work within the next five years. Sabaragamuwa Province
covers about 1,563 km. Steps also would be taken to develop 117 schools
under the scheme of developing 1,000 Secondary schools. The Policy
Statement also mentioned a proposal made at the District Development
meeting by the Governor whereby estate school teachers would be provided
with training to enhance their knowledge on subjects such as Science and
Mathematics.
