Unauthorized tenants unaffected by beautification - Wimal

Tenants of unauthorized constructions in Colombo city limits would not be evicted with the construction of housing complexes to beautify the city, said Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa in Parliament yesterday.

He made this observation in response to a question raised by UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake. The Minister further stated that 1,865 houses were constructed in the Colombo district in 2011. He also said that the government has planned to construct 46,029 houses in the Colombo District by the end of 2014. Minister Weerawansa further stated that Rs 28,032.5 million has been allocated for this programme.
