NDB Group Chairman, Hemaka Amarasuriya felicitated
Chairman, NDB Group, Hemaka Amarasuriya was recently acclaimed with
the 'Induction to Hall of Fame 2012' by the Institute of Chartered
Accountants' Sri Lanka. 'Induction to Hall of Fame' is a prestigious
recognition which aims to appreciate and acknowledge senior chartered
accountants who have made an outstanding contribution towards the
development of the Institute, the profession and society in general.

Last week, Hemaka Amarasuriya was also felicitated with the 'Business
Excellence Award' by the Institute of Certified Professional Managers
which is an initiative of the CMA Sri Lanka. Amarasuriya was amongst the
seven distinguished personalities who were conferred with this award
which recognizes visionary leadership and capacity to drive inexplicable
growth, success and profitability in their respective fields and
organizations. The prestigious accolades reverberates the indelible mark
Amarasuriya has left both in the accounting profession and the corporate
world. Amarasuriya, carries with him an impressive range of management,
industrial, marketing and business skills from his experience as
Chairman of the industrial and retailing conglomerate Singer Group and
his experience on the Boards of such companies as Regnis Lanka and Bata
Shoe Company of Ceylon. He also holds with him substantial experience in
international management as a former Senior Vice President of Singer
Asia Limited and Retail Holdings Limited USA.
While Amarasuirya's contribution to the field of accounting has been
significant, his role in the marketing field has also been widely
recognized. In veneration of his involvement in the field of marketing,
he was appointed as the President of the Chartered Institute of
Marketing (Sri Lanka region) in 1996, and was presented the Retail
Leadership award by the Asia Retail Congress in 2007.
Amarasuriya has not only served in many a role within corporate
boardrooms but has also served the community at large. He was an active
member of the Presidential Task Force for Science and Technology and is
the Chairman of the Southern Province Regional Industrial Service
Committee of the Ministry of Industries. He has also served on the SEC
and the advisory committee on Company Law and is a past Chairman of the
Employer's Federation of Ceylon.
Since his appointment as the Chairman of NDB Group in 2011
Amarasuriya ensured that the bank has continuously excelled in its
financial performance, business drive as well as social contribution.
Under the Chairmanship of Amarasuriya, NDB hurled into a winning streak,
validated with many international and local accolades including the
Award for Best Commercial Bank by the World Finance Magazine.
