Pharmacist up to mischief
Ariyapala WANSATHILAKE- Kurunegala Central Special
Kurunegala Police arrested a pharmacist selling Tramado (intoxicant)
tablets to schoolchildren on Thursday. The suspect had supplied these
tablets to customers by taking orders over the telephone, Police said.
The suspect was remanded.
YMCA World Challenge
World Alliance of YMCAs (WAY) which is the World Federation of
National YMCA Movements has organised 'YMCA World Challenge' as part of
a global celebration to tell the YMCA story to the world by mobilising
five million people on one day.
All member YMCAs in Sri Lanka and worldwide will organise and conduct
an event for people, especially children and youths, to shoot a
basketball today.
Temporary basket ball rings will be installed and people invited to
shoot a basketball with a wish such as 'Alleviate Poverty', 'Stop Child
Abuse', 'Say No to smoking', 'Prevent HIV/AIDS', 'Care for Nature' and
'Stop Global Warming'.
This event is proposed to go into the Guinness Book of World Records
as 'The highest number of people shooting a basket ball on one day'.

Industrial exhibition
The Kalutara District Divi Neguma Industrial Exhibition will be
opened by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa at Tissa Madya
Maha Vidyalaya, Kalutara today at 9 am. The exhibition which will
continue until October 14 will have 42 exhibition and 30 trade stalls.
Consumers will be able to purchase clothing, footwear, spices and
various food items, said the Economic Development Ministry in a
communique yesterday.
The exhibition stalls are organised by the IDB and the Divi Neguma
beneficiaries in the district.
Mobile service for bus owners
A mobile service programme organized by the National Transport
Commission to meet bus owners and resolve their problems will be held at
the Sunhill Hotel, Unit View, Nuwara Eliya today at 9 am under the
patronage of Private Transport Services Minister C B Ratnayake. NTC
chairman Roshan Gunawardene and other NTC officials will also be
present.
International Girl Child Day
A ceremony to mark International Girl Child Day will be held on
October 16 9.00 am at Anuradhapura Dulyana Hotel, under the patronage of
North Central Province Governor Karunaratne Divulgane.
Farmers' Light
Farmers' Light, a paper dealing with farmers' problems by the Lanka
Agriculturists' Association in collaboration with the Ebert Stiftung
Foundation and the Western German organization, with whom the Nuwara
Eliya Agriculturists Association is affiliated, will be launched at the
Nuwara Eliya Golf Club Auditorium on October 14 at 10 am.
Christ King College' 70th anniversary

Police arrest three with stock of diesel

Weligama Police arrested three suspects with 16 plastic barrels of
diesel in their possession at Hallala, Weligama on the Southern Highway
on Wednesday.
Weligama Police said there were 20 litres of diesel in each barrel.
Man killed
Kapila Somaratne- Panadura Group Corr
A 35 year old person, named Palitha Pieris, has been murdered in his
home at Pinwala, Panadura. Panadura Police arrested a suspect.
The suspect was remanded by Panadura Magistrate R S A Dissanayaka
following the magisterial inquiry. Panadura Police are investigating.
Motorcycle stolen

A motorcycle valued at Rs 180,000.00 had been stolen. An insurance
agent had complained to Panadura Police that he came to Panadura beach
with some friends and stopped the motorcycle near a hotel opposite the
beach.
Many chain thefts from Panadura beach have also been reported to
Panadura Police. |
