Vidyartha take major honours

Vidyartha College, Kandy took the major honours in their inter-schools cricket match against St. Thomas' College Matale which ended in a draw at the open prison camp grounds, Pallakele yesterday.

Highlight of the match was the deadly spin bowling of Avishka Ranaweera (4 for 11) and Lahiru Jayaisuriya (6 for 17) which helped Vidyartha College to Skittle out the Matale Thomians for a paltry 66. Thomians lost their last 7 wickets for 9 runs in a dramatic collapse against the spin. Following on they fared much better in scoring better in scoring 117 for 8 and were able to avert an innings defeat. Vidyartha College: 167 all out in 68 overs (Avishka Ranaweera 27, Ravindu Dissanayake 20, Kasun Nawaratne 18, Nipuna Ranweera 18, Dasun Nawaratne 15, Dilshan Hendeniya 5 for 43 Supun Arvinda 4 for 32.
