Gunman remanded

A 23 - year - old man arrested by Hambantota Police in connection with threatening a person at gun point after entering the victim's house by force at Siribopura, Hambantota on Saturday, was remanded until October 24 by the Hambantota magistrate. The suspect was apprehended near Hambantota Hospital with a galkatas, a bullet and 12 bore empty bullet.


Bail for child migrants

Five children out of a group of 28, arrested for illegally attempting to migrate to Australia were bailed on Rs 100,000 sureties each by the Vavuniya magistrate. The group was arrested by Vavuniya Police on Tuesday. Investigations are continuing.


Burglars nabbed with loot

Elpitiya Police arrested three suspects who broke into a house in Elpitiya and stole goods worth Rs 690,200 on Tuesday. Police seized two cameras, a lap top computer, three desk top computers, six rechargeable batteries and a motorcycle. The suspects, residents of Mapalagama, Poddiwela, were remanded until October 23 by the Elpitiya magistrate.


Spare parts shop gutted

A motor vehicle spare parts shop in Pottuvil was gutted on Wednesday evening. The Police and residents doused the fire before it spread to an adjoining filling station.


Brothel raid nets three women

Four persons, including three women, were arrested by Hambantota Police when they raided a brothel at Indiwatte , Hambantota on Wednesday.


Thirteen illegal migrants nabbed

The Western Province Intelligence Unit arrested 13 persons while travelling to Negombo in a van with the intention of illegally migrating to Australia. The suspects, residents of Kotahena, Kilinochchi, Negombo, Vavuniya, Achchuweli and Wellawatte, were handed over to Wattala Police.


Cannabis seized

Special Task Force officers arrested a suspect with 75 kilos of cannabis during a raid in Uruoriya, Suriyaara on Monday.
