Sri Lanka needs reforms in all sectors for the country to carry out
its development process, Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and
Common Amenities Minister and National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal
Weerawansa said.
The Local Authorities (Special Provisions) Bill and the Local
Authorities Elections (Amendment) Bill passed in Parliament on Wednesday
is a turning point in Sri Lankan politics. The government should take
action to introduce this amendment to all elections, he said.
Addressing a press briefing at the NFF Head Office yesterday, the
minister said the newly introduced Local Authorities Election Amendment
Act will support to empower the political leadership of the village.
"Empowering the state sector and administration service is also
important. Introducing the new reforms to the two sectors has become a
timely need," Minister Weerawansa said.
"We have a great challenge and a responsibility to develop Sri Lanka.
Serving the public is our main. We would like to request the President
to introduce more reforms to all important sectors in the country's
development process," he said.
