Special fund to preserve national heritage

The government will establish a fund under the Uruma Aruna Fund
aiming at preservation of archaeological sites, which have historical
value.
Cabinet approval was granted to a proposal made by National Heritage
Minister Dr Jagath Balasooriya for the setting of the Uruma Aruna Fund
with an initial capital of Rs 100 million approved in Budget 2012.
In accordance with the Cabinet proposal the National Heritage Fund
will be established with the main objective of preserving archaeological
sites of histortablished with the main objective of preserving archaeological
sites of historic value. The Fund will be utilised to explore and
excavate archaeological sites and conserve old paintings, promote Sri
Lankan heritage and provision of related information for foreign and
local tourists as well.
The Fund will play a pivotal role in enhancing the knowledge of the
people regarding the preservation of the country's archaeological
heritage for the future generation.
Under this programme, organizing exhibitions, printing of
publications, producing audio-visual documentaries and conducting of
workshops will be carried out.
