Wild elephants in Kotawehera, Nikawaratiya and Kobeygane areas have
become a threat to several farmers and their cultivations.
These elephants invade villages and hamlets around the jungle belts
in the North Western Province and North Central Province both during day
and night in search of food, especially during the drought.
A farmer in a village in Kotawehera recently died after being
attacked by a wild elephant, while in his chena.
It is reported that this was the third such attack that had taken
place during recent times.
