Child -Friendly Hospital Project launched

The Child Friendly Hospital Project was launched recently aiming to
make Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital the best children's hospital in
Asia by 2020 on a concept of Health Ministry Secretary Dr Nihal
Jayathilake.
The project was launched at the hospital auditorium concurrent to
World Children's Day celebrations. Lady Ridgeway Hospital Director Dr
Ratnasiri Hewage handed over the project report to Dr Jayatilake.

About 2,000 children are treated at the Out Patients Department of
the hospital daily. It is the world's biggest children's hospital which
provides free medical treatment.
The government spends Rs 1,400 million annually for the maintenance
of services. A Cardiology Unit, a Kidney Treatment Unit and an
Orthopaedic Unit will be established at a cost of over Rs 650 million at
the hospital by the end of the year.
Programmes will also be launched to improve the quality of the
service. A nine storeyed building will also be built at the hospital
spending Rs 8 million.
