Isipatana enter final

A quality display of rugby by Isipatana College paved them the way to
finals when they outsmarted Dharmaraja College, Kandy by 27 points ( one
goal and four tries ) to 15 ( a goal, a try and a penalty) in the semi
final of the Milo President's Trophy Knock Out Tournament played at
Royal College Sports Complex yesterday.
Isipatana Fly Half Hirantha Perera missed a Penalty losing a valuable
opportunity of scoring in the 23rd minute.Lock Forward L.L.Fernando
scored the first try for Dharmaraja but their Full Back Thilina
Wijesinghe failed to add the extra points. And Hirantha missed another
two penalties in 35th and 44th minutes respectively .Flanker Kumendra
Dharmadasa's solitary try was a consolation for green jersied lads.The
scores read five all at lemons.
Isipatana took the lead in the game when S.Suriyaarachchi sliced
through a try while Hirantha missed the conversion(Isipatana 10 -
5).Again in the 55th minute Isipatana scored another try through Number
Eight Arun Kumar and Perera made the conversion(Isipatana 17 - 05).
Dharmaraja's Full Back Thilina Wijesinghe fired across a penalty
making it 8 - 17 for Rajans.In the 66th minute Dharmaraja's skipper and
Winger helped to reduce a deficit when Miyuru Hewawasam touched down and
Wijesinghe managed the conversion (Dharmaraja 15 - 17).
But the Isipathanians didn't allowed the opponents a go further as
their Kumar scored the try in 73rd minute where Ashan de Silva missed
the conversion(Isipatana 22 - 15).Short while before the final whistle,
Sooriyaarchchi dashed through a try ending the match in favour of
Isipatana. |
