Two teams from Jaffna for Wesley Cricket Sixes

Two teams from Jaffna and 11 other outstation teams will vie for
honours with the experienced 23 teams comprising under 19 school
cricketers form western , southern and central parts of the country when
Wesley Sixes for the Munchee Gluco Fit Trophy commences at Wesley
College Grounds, Campbell Park on October 12.
The defending champions Mahanama College handing over the
trophy which they won last year to the chairman of the
organizing committee of the tournament Richie Sappideen for
presentation to this years winners. Also in the picture are

In the three day six a side tournament held for the 21st consecutive
year , 36 teams will vie on a knock out basis in the first round and
continue on October 13 and 14. The defending Champions , Mahanama
College will be trying to repeat their last year feat. The runners up ,
St Sebestians too will give a good challenge.
The significance this year is more participation from outstations
schools and two from Jaffna, making it an evidence of a practical
reconciliation efforts by Sri Lanka during the post war period which
augurs well for the future of School cricket in Sri Lanka.
The 21st episode of the knock out tournament, sanctioned by the Sri
Lanka Schools Cricket Association will be monitored and supervised by a
special technical committee during all three days. Organized by Old
Wesleyites and sponsored by Ceylon Biscuits Limited ( CBL ) for the
fifth year, the tourney has seen the participation of many sri Lankan
cricketing stars including Mahela Jayawardena, T M Dilshan and Dinesh
Chandimal as schoolboy cricketers.
To make the tournament glamorous, the organizers have invited eight
schools under 19 girls teams for exhibition matches. Meals and
accommodation has been organized at Wesley College Hostel for the
visiting teams from outstations.
The tournament draw was held at the Wesley College Auditorium on
Wednesday evening in the presence of representatives of the participants
and the media. President of the Old Wesleyites Sports Club and chairman
of the organizing committee , Richie Sappaideen, Wesley College
Principal Dr Shanti Mclelland , Group Managing Director , CBL Sheamalee
Wickremasinghe were present on the occasion.
