NTC suspends operations of two buses

The National Transport Commission (NTC) suspended the operation of
two inter-provincial long distance private buses whose crews engaged in
a series of irregularities.
"We decided to suspend the services of buses following investigation
into public complaints," NTC chairman Roshan Gunawardene said.
He said the driver and conductor of the inter - provincial long
distance private bus plying from Kurunegala and Hingurakgoda assaulted
the crew of Sisu Seriya school bus in Ipalawa, Gokaralla on September 9.
"Action was taken to suspend the service of this bus after
investigations," the NTC chairman said.
"Gokarella Police found cannabis in the other bus transporting
passengers between Embilipitiya and Vavuniya on September 27. The
incident was investigated and the NTC decided to suspend the service of
this bus as well," he said.
"Route permits of the two buses and Identity Cards of the driver and
conductor issued by the NTC will be permanently cancelled if they are
found guilty of all charges after a complete investigation," Gunawardene
said.
He said NTC will take stern action against private bus drivers and
conductors who violate traffic rules.
