Senior Minister condemns religious hostilities

Senior Minister A H M Fowzie in a letter to Bangladesh ambassador Safiur Rahman has condemned religious hostilities in Bangladesh saying no person in the civilized world would condone such acts.

Fowzie said: "I write to express my deep concern over the recent disturbing events in Bangladesh in a setting of religious hostility.

"It is unfortunate that Bangladesh, which is having friendly relations with Sri Lanka, has been made a site of an act of barbarism.

"No person of the civilized world condone this act.

"I, on behalf of the Muslim community in Sri Lanka take this opportunity to condemn this act of religious hostility as Islam preaches peaceful co-existence with other religions.

"I also hope that action would be taken to punish the culprits and to ensure that no recurrence of this sort takes place".
