'FUTA cannot prevent A-L marking'

Professor Nalin de Silva on Wednesday said the Federation of University Teachers Association cannot prevent the Advanced Level answer papers being evaluated by its members, in terms of the law.

He said prevention of evaluating A -L answer scripts by FUTA is a violation of the FUTA constitution and the Trade Union Ordinance.

"Nowhere in the constitution of FUTA does it say that FUTA members should not provide services to organisations, other than universities," he said. Professor Silva said a trade union cannot prevent members from providing services to an organisation, other than universities.

He said the evaluation of AL answer scripts is carried out through an agreement the Examinations Commissioner has with the evaluator and FUTA has nothing do with that. Professor Silva who drafted the FUTA constitution and held posts of its secretary and president for many years, said FUTA has been hoodwinked by bankrupt political elements whose main aim is a regime change.
