ITU Sec Gen warns:

Next World War could start in cyber space

Dr Hamadoun

While identifying ‘Cyber Security’ as one of the greatest challenges humanity is facing, Secretary General of International Telecommunication Union Dr Hamadoun I Toure called on all countries to work in unison and enhance cooperation to ensure the safety of networks.

In an interview with the media on the sidelines of the 12th Global Symposium for Regulators in Colombo, Dr Toure said there was potential for a cyber war.

"I hope I'm wrong, but the next world war may well start on the Net, in cyberspace. Cyber war is not occurring right now, but we have seen malware being developed by some countries against others. Cyber threats can reach parts of a nation where physical threats cannot" he said.
