Pledge to respect all Animal Rights
People world wide celebrate the existence of all forms of animal life
since1931, when it all started with a convention of ecologists in
Florence who appreciated the contribution they make for the sustenance
of the planet, ensuring the continuity of the cycle of life.
Fourth of October was the chosen date to acknowledge and revere all
forms of animal life, its very existence, protection and enrichment.
We as members of the Animal Welfare and Protection Association (AWPA)
acknowledge and accept a code of conduct to achieve the above.
We are indeed very happy to be party to the recognition of animal
rights, protection of animals and caring for them.
It has to be accepted that we human beings can do so much more for
them with a greater sense of Commitment, Love and Sincerity which we
find lacking in some quarters, simply because they have not had the
benefit of interaction with animals. It is this situation we must strive
to correct so that we achieve total commitment of society to animal
rights with understanding and awareness.
Indeed we are most grateful to the contribution they make to enrich
our lives.
Let us on this 80th World Animals Day as a "country of caring human
beings" pledge and call upon the Government to bring in meaningful
legislation to protect all animals on this thrice Blessed Island.
To commemorate World Animal Day this year, the AWPA will sponsor a
free sterilizing/neutering programme in Panirendawa (in the district of
Chilaw) on Sunday October 7. |
