The Education Ministry is conducting a full investigation into the
incident at the Vidyaloka Vidyalaya in Galle where unruly students and
parents accosted the newly appointed Principal and caused mayhem inside
the school premises. "No student will be allowed to misbehave and run
amok inside school compounds in future and disrupt the peaceful
environment in schools", an Education Ministry official said.
Speaking on the violent behaviour of students of the Galle Vidyaloka
Vidyalaya which resulted in injuries caused to six students and the
Principal on Monday the official said that the Education Ministry will
ensure no repetition of such incidents in the future in any school in
the country.
Meanwhile, the service of the former principal of the Vidyaloka
Vidyalaya has been suspended due to the failure to carry out
recommendations of the Public Service Commission.
Vidyaloka Vidyalaya was temporarily shut down on Monday following a
tense situation, which arose inside the school premises when the new
principal arrived to assume duties.
A group of parents staged a protest demonstration inside the school
premises against the appointment of the new principal to the Vidyaloka
College.
Later, they were joined by a group of students who together accosted
the new principal and hurled stones at his vehicle when he arrived to
take up duties, at the school entrance.
