Colombo Science Faculty lectures resume:

Lecturers turn up in their numbers

The Colombo University Science Faculty lectures for the final year students commenced yesterday, Colombo University Vice Chancellor Prof. Kshanika Hirimburegama said.

Considering requests received from science faculty students and Higher Education Ministry initiatives to recommence academic activities, which have been badly affected by trade union action by the university academic staff, the Colombo University has taken steps to restart academic activities.

According to the VC, a large number of lecturers have agreed to resume lectures disregarding the trade union action of the Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA).

In line with the regulations of the Higher Education Ministry, salaries and other allowances of the lecturers, who reported for duties will be paid without deductions. Meanwhile, Cabinet approval has granted to a joint proposal made by Higher Education Minister S B Dissanayake and Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.

It has been reported that lecturers of several other universities have reported for duty yesterday.
