Free hearing tests islandwide by Wickramarachchi Institute of Speech & Hearing

Some highlights of the event in Jaffna

A wide range of hearing tests (ABR, OAE, PTA, Tymp) were carried out free of charge at the Wickramarachchi Institutes of Speech and Hearing Islandwide, in view of the international deaf day that fell on September 23.

With the initiative of Northern Defense Commander Major Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Colonel Ajith Pallawala and ENT Surgeon Dr. Madana Kumara, WISH Foundation also donated a High Tec Hearing Device to 61-year -old, M. Thameshwaram, a low income receiver of Jaffna District.

He was diagnosed with a prominent hearing loss at the CI Campaign Hearing Camp held on September 22, in Jaffna by WISH Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists, Ms. Piumi Kosgallana, Ms. Udani Wijesinghe, Ms. Nishanthi Gunasekaran and IT Engineer of WISH Foundation M. Selvakumara.

Extending this programmes further, WISH also inaugurated their Diploma in Audiology in Tamil Medium at the Jaffna teaching Hospital Auditorium premises with ENT Surgeon, Jaffna teaching Hospital, Dr. M. Thirumaran, AO, Jaffna teaching Hospital, M. Prasath, Matron, Jaffna teaching Hospital, M. Myleswaran and actress Nadeesha Hemamali.

Full scholarships were also given to chosen candidates for the course by WISH foundation and the total course material, lectures and other costs of the course were undertaken by WISH.
