| The Japanese government provided food
grant assistance to the value of yen 120 million to the Sri
Lankan government through the World Food Programme (WFP) to
support the school meal programme in the Northern Province.
Japanese ambassador Nobuhito Hobo handed over a consignment
of canned fish to Economic Development Minister Basil
Rajapaksa at the ministry yesterday. WFP Deputy Country
Director Mads Lofvall was also present. |

Following the rehabilitation of the
dilapidated Handagalakanda Purana Gallen Viharaya in
Kebithigollewa by the Civil Defence Force to mark the 2600th
Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi its conserved 643 foot Samadhi
Buddha statue and the Cetiya were unveiled for worship by
the people. The unveiling ceremony was held under the
patronage of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Child
Development and Women's Affairs Minister Tissa Karaliyadda.

Gnanawimala Thera, Viharadhipathi Ven. Kendewe Samitha Thera,
Director General of Archaelogy Dr. Senerath Dissanayake and
