SLRC to celebrate Children's Day
The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) will commemorate
International Childrens Day on October 1 with a special childrens
celebration at the Dehiwala National Zoological Gardens from 9 am.
Children below 12 years age and children coming in school uinform will
be allowed free entrance to the gardens on the day. A live programme
will be telecast over Rupavahini from the Dehiwala National Zoological
Gardens from 3 pm to 6 pm featuring childrens' items, Elephant dances
and performances by Sea Lions. Children will be given a chance at
announcing during the hourly news programme featured on Rupavahini. A
batch of 10 children who rendered humanitarian services last year would
also be honoured at this ceremony, while two senior citizens who had
rendered invaluable service towards children would also be felicitated,
states the SLRC news release.
Worship musical
A dramatic worship musical presentation, interspersed with
congregational worship presented by the choir of St Francis of Assisi
Church, Mount Lavinia will be held on September 29 at 6 pm. Entrance is
free.
Dr A M A Azeez commemoration
The thirty-ninth Dr A M A Azeez Commemoration meeting and the
memorial oration will be held on October 4 at 4.30 pm at Zahira College,
Colombo 10. Dr M A M Shukri Director, Jamiya Naleemiah, Beruwela will
deliver the Oration on "Relevance of Iqbalian Philosophy to Contemporary
Issues". The public meeting will be jointly chaired by Dr A M A Azeez
Foundation President S H M Jameel and All Ceylon YMMA Conference
National President K N Deen. A re-print of the book Arabu Thamil Engal
Anbu Thamil written in Tamil on Arabic-Tamil by Dr A M A Azeez in 1973
will be released on the occasion.
Anniversary celebrations
The 84th anniversary celebration of the Child Protection Society(CPS)
will be held today, September 28 at 4.30 pm at the Olympic House, 100/9
F, Independence Avenue, Colombo 7. Children of the CPS Boys Development
Centre at Maharagama and Girls Development Centre at Rukmale will
present concert items in celebration of the 84th anniversary.
Choral celebration
The Ceylon Bible Society will conduct 'United in God's word', a
special praise and thanksgiving Choral Celebration on the occasion of
their 200th anniversary featuring the Choir 'Inspiration' directed by
Priyanthi Seneviratne Vandort on September 29 at St. Paul's Church,
Kynsey Road, Colombo 8 at 6 pm. Apostolic Nuncio in Sri Lanka Monsignor
Joseph Spiteria will grace the occassion as the Chief Guest. The Ceylon
Bible Society has laboured for the last 200 years spreading the word of
God, is represented by all Christian denominations, including the
Catholic Church.
World Children's Day
The Sri Lanka Ex-Army Women's Association has organized a workshop
tomorrow, September 29 at 5.30 pm at the Ex-Services Institute
Auditorium at Bristol Street Colombo, to promote values in life for the
children of its members to coincide with the 'World Children's Day'. Sri
Lanka Ex-Air Force and Navy women will also participate at this event.
The workshop will be conducted by Chandana Gunawardena. Founder Hampton
Village Sri Lanka Dr Upali Wickramasekera will be the chief guest.
Yoga meditation workshop
A free yoga meditation workshop conducted by the Maharagama Sethsada
Yoga Nikethanaya will be held tomorrow from 9am at the Maharagama Youth
Centre, Nikethanaya's director Chamin Warnakula said. Indian Yoga
consultant Dr Gopal Itikar will join him in conducting the workshop.

Public welfare programme
A public welfare programme organised by Narahenpita Rosmead Lion's
Club for residents will be held at Rathanarama temple, Kalinga Mawatha
tomorrow under the patronage of the temple's Chief Incumbent Ven
Narawelpita Rathanapala Thera with the participation of Lion Athula de
Silva. The Sri Lanka Eye Donation Association and Sri Lanka Foreign
Employment Agency are the sponsors.
Children's home building opening
The opening of the children's home new building will be held at
Kerawalapitiya Hendala, Wattala tomorrow at 4pm.
Certificate awarding ceremony
The certificate awarding ceremony of the Youth Development Programme
will be held at the Buddhist Cultural Centre, Sri Sambuddathwa Jayanthi
Mawatha, Colombo 5 on Sunday at 2pm. It is organised by the Sri Lanka
Islamic Students' Movement. |
