NHDA has great success - Wimal

Politicians remember underprivileged people who are living in habitats only during the election period, said Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa.

Participating as the chief guest to hand over the Mattakuliya, Sri Wickramapura Janasevana Ground to the general public minister Weerawansa said that politicians make various promises and break them after the election results.

He said that the present government takes a huge effort to uplift the living standards of underprivileged families living in habitats. However, some politicians in the Opposition criticize this effort. "UNP MP Sajith Premadasa always criticize the Janasevana Housing Project. But if he is a talented person like his father, I ask him why couldn't he become the housing minister during the UNP government of 2001-2004. In that period he was the Deputy Health Minister. But he didn't conduct any health clinic at a housing scheme constructed by his father" he said.

The minister also said the UNP government tried to close National Housing Development Authority(NHDA) during their period.

That is how they respected their leader Ranasinghe Premadasa. Under the present government, the National Housing Development Authority has achieved great success. "We never consider about class, caste and political view when we provide houses under the Janasevana Housing Development Programme.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa launched this housing Development Programme with the objective of providing a permanent house for all homeless families. So, I request MP Sajith Premadasa to refrain from making false allegations about this programme to fulfill their political ambitions," said the minister.

Colombo Municipal Council Mayor A. J. M . Muzamil, Moratuwa Municipal Council Mayor Suresh Indika, Urban Habitats Development Authority chairman Palitha Gmage, Director General Sumith Wanniarachchi, State Engineering Corporation chairman Jagath Kumara Perera, National Housing Development Authority General Manager Mahinda Mudalige, Janasevana Secretariat Adviser Lakvijaya Sagara Palansooriya and other officials participated on the occasion.
