'Schools' guidance needed in moulding leaders'

Leadership is recognized in a society as long as that leadership does its responsibilities properly, and at present, there is a need for leaders in various field who commit themselves to serve for the betterment of the others, President's Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs Kumarasiri Hettige said.

He said the guidance from schools is very much important for students as they will be the future leaders.

He also said that it is the responsibility of the teachers to guide them by identifying the hidden talents of children.

He made these comments during the induction ceremony of college prefects of Alekana Maha Vidyalaya in Elpitiya, Galle. He was the chief guest.

He said that "everyone can be leaders. There are certain qualities of a leader. In addition he should have the ability and discipline too. There are leaders in certain fields. He should protect the dignity of the leadership wherever he works. Some who obtain positions deteriorate faster. Deterioration cannot be prevented, when trust, humbleness and honesty goes a way from him. You can witness this political and other arenas.

There is no use of some educated people even though they are leaders in certain places. Lack of practicality is the reason for this. They live in a different world. The sign of a good leader is being exemplary. We can see all these qualities in President Mahinda Rajapaksa. We were able to safeguard our country only because of that proper and practical leadership.

Hettige said 'we all should be proud of that he dedicated his life to protect our motherland. School prefects should go in line with the principals vision. Your leadership should be principal. If you forget this fact, then you will be in trouble. You should not go beyond your leadership. |There are few when they become popular they take a wrong path. We saw such personalities in the recent past. To become a true leader there are certain things to fulfill. some people forget their beginning. They fail to understand people's value.

Today the society has become very complex one. They have different imaginations. The prevailing education system has become a reason of mind stressing the schoolchildren. Even teachers are facing issues. Authorities should create the environment to teachers to do their duty in a tranquil mind. Most of the issues can solve if you listen carefully and approach to it. It is a felony if the students fall into abyss at time when the economic development in boost.

Everyone should understand the fact that children should be guided in right paths if their future to be a prosperous one. We have not heard about any other people's leader who loves children this much than our president. It is not difficult to move ahead this journey under a leadership like this.

With the technology, the way of thinking of children been spoiled. Mobile phones have become a major issue nowadays. They are wasting the time, which they have to use it for reading. If this situation continues, you cannot be a matured person. People will become machines. We do not need a world like this. We need a society full of kindness and good qualities. It is the responsibility of everyone to build a better society and the future as well. It is not easy to guide the children in good path and to change the attitude.
