SLFP Gen Sec to striking Dons:
‘Think about the future generations’
SLFP General Secretary and Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena
yesterday appealed to patriotic university lecturers and Dons not be
deceived into taking part in anti-government strikes and protests.
He requested them to think of the country’s future and desist from
destroying the education of the younger generation which has to take
over responsibility for the country. Minister Sirisena in a statement
issued yesterday said free education is a historic heritage of the SLFP.
“If there was a government which protected free education and made a
large slice of financial allocations for its welfare it had been an SLFP
led government.
“The SLFP based on social welfare principles provided greater state
sponsorship to free education and health because they sectors must vital
and respected by civilian life. The students and teachers are the
strengths of the SLFP.
Their bonds with the SLFP had been proved at every election. They
have rallied round the SLFP in every decisive political events.
That is why the SLFP had taken over the responsibility of protecting
and maturing free education. That is why political forces led by the
SLFP had been always made victorious by the people by defeating
imperialist oriented political parties and groups opposed indigenous
people friendly politics and policies.
Imperialist and anti national forces offended by this are planning to
pirate the SLFP heritage.
“These forces have taken cover behind the FUTA which has launched a
campaign to non over trade union rights with a view to turn the campaign
into an anti government force with the ulterior motive of turning Sri
Lanka into another Libya, Egypt, Sudan or Syria.
All this moment the SLFP as people oriented party would request the
people to realize these sinister intentions and join hands with the
government to defeat this dangerous conspiracy,” the minister said. |
